The Bar
After graduating from law school, the next goal is to pass the bar. Over the years, this goal seemed to have paled in comparison with other life goals. Perhaps "passing the bar" should not be the goal after the graduation, rather, "raising the bar" should be one's aim.
By "raising the bar", it entails more than getting the license to practice the legal profession but being the best lawyer that you can be, no fuss, no excuses, just excellence.
A lawyer upholds the constitution and the laws, respects authorities, does not commit any fraud or tolerate the same. He/she is not influenced by money nor uses his/her knowledge to harm other people. A lawyer remains faithful to his/her duty to the courts, the bar, colleagues and the community.
Yes, it may sound ambitious, but a plethora of uncaring lawyers is not what this world needs. This world needs someone with a backbone, yet with a heart; someone who stands proud like a mighty oak, yet bends like the bamboo; someone with a vision, yet considers the greater good; someone who understands compromise, yet doesn't sacrifice the law nor ethics.
Lawyers must aim to "Work for a cause, not for applause. Live life to express, not to impress. Don't strive to make your presence notice, just make your absence felt." (Unknown)
